Firefly is Adobe's generative studio: text-to-image, video, audio, and vector tools, plus a growing set of partner models, living in one web app and a mobile app. It is built for people who already work in Photoshop, Illustrator, or Express, and for teams that need to show where an asset came from.

What it is actually good at

The editing tools are the draw as much as generation. Generative Fill adds or removes objects in a photo, and Generative Expand grows the frame outward, both useful when a client changes the crop at the last minute. Outputs can carry Content Credentials, a signed record that AI was involved, which matters for brand and editorial work. Prompts are accepted in well over a hundred languages, so colleagues can work in their own.

A simple workflow

Write a short brief, generate a few directions, then move the one you like into Photoshop or Express to fix details and lay out text. Keep an eye on generative credits, because they are shared across Adobe's AI features and a busy afternoon can spend them quickly. Adobe's own models are trained on licensed and public-domain material and are marketed as commercially safe; partner models in the same app may follow different rules, so read the label on each one. Firefly Boards, a shared infinite canvas, is handy when several people need to react to the same set of images before anyone commits, and the mobile app covers quick generation when you are away from a desk.

What to watch

Commercially safe does not mean factually safe. A generated photo of a product or a place is still invented, so do not pass it off as documentary. Availability of specific models, languages, and features shifts between plans and regions, so confirm what your tier includes before you build a workflow around it. A generated image can also be technically new and still echo a recognisable style or face, so review each asset the way you would any stock licence.
